Change device resources
To CHANGE DEVICE RESOURCES:
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
3) Double-click the 'System' icon. (The 'System Properties' dialog box appears.)
4) Click the 'Device Manager' tab.
5) Select the 'View devices by type' radio button, and double-click on the device type icon (such as Hard disk controllers) in the 'View devices by type' list box.
6) Select the device and click 'Properties'. (The device 'Properties' dialog box appears.)
7) Click the 'Resources' tab, and unselect the 'Use automatic settings' check box if necessary.
8) Select the resource to change in the 'Resource Settings' list box, and click 'Change Settings...'. (A dialog box appears titled 'Edit <selected resource name>'.
NOTE 1: If the 'No Modifications Allow' dialog box appears, this resource cannot be changed.
NOTE 2: Check the 'Settings based on' drop-down list box, and verify that it is set to 'Basic Configuration 0000'. Change the 'Settings based on' drop-down list box to any other basic configuration, and repeat step 8).
9) Select a new value for the resource from the 'Value' list box.
NOTE 1: If the device is not plug-and-play compatible, changing the resource for the device requires changing the hardware jumpers on the device itself before the change will take effect.
NOTE 2: After selecting a new resource value, view the 'Conflict Information' area to make sure that the new value is not already in use.
10) Click 'OK' to close the 'Edit' dialog box.
11) Click 'OK' to close the device driver 'Properties' dialog box.
12) Click 'OK' to close the 'Device Manager'. (The 'System Settings Change' dialog box appears.)
13) Click 'Yes' to restart Windows 95.
NOTE: Windows 95 must be restarted for the changes to take effect.
